Division 02 — Construction / Surface Treatment

Surface Treatment

Concrete surface treatment covers the chemical products applied to fresh concrete to control moisture retention during curing and to ensure clean release from formwork — protecting the concrete surface from its earliest age. Related treatments that harden hardened floors or repel water are part of CFC Egypt's Flooring Systems range.

CFC Egypt manufactures a targeted range of surface treatment products engineered for the demands of construction in Egypt and MENA's hot, arid climate. EGYCURE P and EGYCURE WB curing compounds prevent the rapid surface drying that causes plastic shrinkage cracking on exposed slabs in high temperatures. EGYFORM W (water-based) and EGYFORM O (oil-based) release agents deliver clean formwork stripping on every pour cycle, protecting both the concrete face and the formwork investment. Floor hardeners such as EGYHARD 300, 350, and 400 and sealers such as EGYSEAL WR are part of our Flooring Systems range.

01

What It Covers

On this page, surface treatment focuses on the products applied to fresh concrete — curing compounds and form release agents. Related floor hardeners and sealers, which are applied to hardened floors, are part of our Flooring Systems range.

01

Curing Compounds

Spray-applied membrane-forming compounds (EGYCURE P, EGYCURE WB) that seal the concrete surface immediately after finishing operations to retain mix water during early hydration. Preventing premature drying in Egypt's high-temperature, low-humidity environment is critical to achieving design strength and surface quality — curing compound application is one of the highest-value, lowest-cost investments on any concrete pour.

02

Surface Hardeners (Flooring Range)

EGYHARD 300, 350, and 400 are surface hardeners with basalt aggregates and special admixtures for industrial floors, areas subject to heavy traffic, and auto repair shops — giving a denser, harder, more abrasion-resistant surface. These hardeners are applied to floors and are listed under our Flooring Systems range rather than on this page.

03

Floor Sealers (Flooring Range)

EGYSEAL WR is a two-component, solvent-free, transparent, low-viscosity epoxy system used as a sealer/primer for concrete and epoxy-mortar floorings, including wet concrete surfaces. For penetrating transparent water-repellents on facades and masonry, see the siloxane-based EGYROCK products in our Protective Coating range. EGYSEAL WR itself is listed under our Flooring Systems range.

04

Form Release Agents

Release agents (EGYFORM O, EGYFORM W) applied to formwork faces before concrete placement to prevent adhesion and deliver clean, defect-free concrete surfaces on stripping. Oil-based types suit timber, plywood, and steel forms in standard applications; water-based types offer low-VOC performance and are compatible with architectural concrete where surface staining must be avoided. Consistent release agent application also extends formwork life.

02

Where They're Used

Surface treatment products are used wherever concrete is placed and must achieve its design performance from the surface inward. The following applications represent the most critical uses in the construction market.

Industrial Floors & Warehouse Slabs

Industrial concrete floors subject to fork-lift and pallet truck traffic require both adequate curing to achieve design strength and surface hardening treatment to resist abrasion. EGYCURE curing compounds prevent early drying and surface cracking. For the hardening stage, EGYHARD 300, 350, and 400 surface hardeners (part of our Flooring Systems range) build a denser, more abrasion-resistant surface for logistics, manufacturing, and distribution floors.

Exposed Architectural Concrete

Architectural concrete — fair-faced walls, columns, and bridge decks designed to remain visible as the finished surface — demands consistent formwork release, controlled colour and texture, and long-term weather resistance. Water-based EGYFORM W release agents deliver a clean release without surface staining. Water-repellent treatment after formwork removal protects the exposed surface from moisture and pollution, preserving the visual quality over the building's lifetime.

Concrete Road & Airfield Paving

Concrete pavements are among the most demanding curing applications: the large surface area, thin section, and exposure to sun, wind, and traffic create conditions where plastic shrinkage cracking is a constant risk. Curing compounds are spray-applied immediately after surface texturing to retain mix water; they must be compatible with the surface texture finish and meet the relevant road authority specifications. Pigmented curing compounds allow inspection of coverage uniformity.

Facades & External Masonry

External concrete and masonry facades absorb driving rain and capillary moisture, which accelerates carbonation, salt crystallisation, and reinforcement corrosion. Penetrating siloxane-based water-repellents line the pore surfaces without altering the visual appearance of the substrate, dramatically reducing moisture uptake and extending facade service life. CFC Egypt's siloxane-based transparent water-repellents (EGYROCK S and EGYROCK W) are part of our Protective Coating range; they are spray or roller-applied and can be re-applied at the end of service life.

Precast & Formwork-Intensive Construction

Precast concrete plants cycle formwork multiple times per day; release agent performance directly affects surface quality and formwork durability. EGYFORM products deliver consistent release on steel and GRP moulds across a wide ambient temperature range, reducing mould maintenance requirements and protecting the quality of the concrete face on every pour cycle. In-situ construction with repetitive climbing formwork or table form systems benefits equally from consistent release agent application.

Frequently Asked Questions

Curing is the process of maintaining adequate moisture and temperature in freshly placed concrete during early hydration to achieve the design strength and durability. Without curing, the surface loses moisture too quickly — particularly in hot, dry, or windy conditions — leading to plastic shrinkage cracking, reduced surface strength, and increased permeability. Curing compounds are applied by spray immediately after finishing operations; they form a membrane that retains moisture in the concrete, replacing the need for wet burlap, polythene sheeting, or continuous water ponding. They are particularly valuable on large flat slabs, roads, and bridge decks where wet curing methods are impractical.

Both are concrete curing compounds applied to fresh concrete to protect it from rapid evaporation of mixing water during early hydration. EGYCURE P is a water-based acrylic emulsion curing compound, while EGYCURE WB is a clear, low-viscosity, water-based curing compound. Both retain moisture in the concrete to support proper strength gain and reduce plastic shrinkage cracking, and are particularly valuable on large flat slabs, roads, and bridge decks where wet curing methods are impractical.

A form release agent is applied to formwork surfaces before concrete placement to prevent adhesion between the fresh concrete and the form. Without an effective release agent, concrete sticks to the formwork, causing surface tearing and damage to both the concrete face and the form itself. CFC Egypt supplies a water-based release agent (EGYFORM W) and an oil-based release agent (EGYFORM O). The water-based type is preferred where clean application and low VOC are important; the oil-based type provides a robust release film on timber, steel, or plywood formwork.

Floor hardeners such as EGYHARD 300, 350, and 400 — surface hardeners with basalt aggregates for industrial floors — and the EGYSEAL WR transparent epoxy sealer/primer are part of CFC Egypt's Flooring Systems range rather than this surface treatment range. For penetrating, siloxane-based transparent water-repellents for facades and masonry (EGYROCK S and EGYROCK W), see the Protective Coating range.

In hot, dry, or windy conditions the concrete surface loses moisture very quickly, which can cause plastic shrinkage cracking, reduced surface strength, and increased permeability. Spray-applied curing compounds such as EGYCURE P and EGYCURE WB form a membrane that retains mix water during early hydration, replacing the need for wet burlap, polythene sheeting, or continuous water ponding — making them well suited to Egypt's high-temperature, low-humidity environment.
