Division 03 — Trading Division — Master Alloys
Usta Alaşımlar
Master alloys are concentrated alloys of a base metal — typically aluminium — with one or more active elements, formulated to dissolve quickly and uniformly into a larger melt. They allow precise, reproducible additions of grain-refining, modifying, or hardening elements at the trace levels required by modern aluminium alloy specifications, without the handling and recovery challenges of adding pure elements directly.
CFC Egypt's Trading Division supplies aluminium master alloys — Al-Ti-B grain refiners and Al-B grain refiners — to aluminium foundries, casthouses, and rolling mills in Egypt and the MENA region. For a broader range of aluminium alloys and casting grades, CFC Egypt's sister company BossMetal is a dedicated aluminium alloy supplier serving the same market. Together, both companies provide a comprehensive source of aluminium metallurgical inputs for the region.
01
What We Supply
Aluminium master alloys for grain refinement of wrought and casting alloys, and for electrical-conductor aluminium processing.
01
Al-Ti-B — Grain Refiner
The standard aluminium grain refiner for wrought and casting alloys. Al-Ti-B master alloys contain TiB₂ particles and dissolved titanium, which together provide a large number of nucleation sites during solidification, producing a fine, equiaxed grain structure. Available in rod and waffle ingot form; addition rate is typically 1–3 kg per tonne of aluminium depending on the target grain size and alloy system.
02
Al-B — Boron Master Alloy
Al-B master alloys are used in electrical-grade (EC) aluminium production to remove titanium and vanadium from solid solution by precipitating them as borides. This reduces electrical resistivity to meet EC conductor standards. Al-B is not a substitute for Al-Ti-B in standard grain-refining applications; its boron content is directed specifically at the neutralisation of conductivity-reducing transition metal impurities.
03
Al-Sr — Modifier (via BossMetal)
Strontium modification of hypoeutectic Al-Si casting alloys transforms coarse acicular silicon into a fine fibrous structure, substantially improving elongation and fatigue life. For Al-Sr modifiers and a complete range of aluminium alloy products, CFC Egypt works with its sister company BossMetal, a specialist aluminium alloy supplier serving the MENA region.
02
Where Master Alloys Are Used
Master alloys are used wherever aluminium alloys are melted and cast — from primary smelters and rolling mills to die casting shops and sand casting foundries.
Aluminium Die Casting
High-pressure die casting operations producing automotive components, housings, and structural parts use grain refiners and modifiers to ensure consistent microstructure and mechanical properties across high-volume production runs. Fine grain and modified silicon morphology improve pressure tightness, surface finish, and post-cast machining performance.
Rolling Mills & Extruders
Aluminium rolling mills casting slabs and billet for rolling or extrusion add Al-Ti-B grain refiner to the melt stream using continuous rod feeding systems. Fine grain ensures uniform deformation during hot rolling and extrusion, reduces surface cracking tendency, and gives consistent mechanical properties across the slab or billet cross-section.
Electrical Conductor Aluminium
EC-grade aluminium for electrical conductor wire and cable must meet tight electrical resistivity limits. Al-B additions are used to precipitate titanium and vanadium as insoluble borides, removing them from solid solution and restoring conductivity to specification. This is a critical process step in the production of overhead power line conductors and winding wire.
Gravity & Sand Casting Foundries
Aluminium foundries producing gravity-die and sand castings — wheels, pump housings, brackets, and structural components — use Al-Ti-B grain refiners to reduce hot tearing, improve feeding, and achieve consistent tensile properties. Al-Si casting alloys also benefit from strontium modification via BossMetal-sourced Al-Sr, which transforms silicon morphology and substantially raises elongation in safety-critical parts.
